CSRG Overview

Scope

CSRG is interdisciplinary in its nature; its membership includes academic staff from the Department of Computer Science (DCS) in the Faculty of Arts and Science, from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, and from other departments and faculties. The CSRG Coordinator reports to the Chairs of the Departments of Computer Science and of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Degree Programs and Academic Staff

CSRG focusses on research. Academic staff in CSRG are appointed, reviewed, and promoted by existing departments. All graduate program arrangements and instruction within the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) are the responsibility of academic departments (dominantly DCS and ECE).

Membership

Membership in CSRG is open to faculty of the University of Toronto who wish to conduct research related to computer systems and their applications. Faculty members wishing to become members of CSRG should submit a statement to the CSRG Coordinator, describing their research interests and the relevance of such research to the goals of CSRG and its ongoing projects.

The D.L. Pratt Building

CSRG's main office is situated in room LP398 in the D.L. Pratt building (see LP on this campus map.). Researchers and graduate students associated with CSRG are advancing the state-of-the-art in a number of knowledge-based, information-driven disciplines in the pursuit of basic and applied research goals. They are developing the human resources necessary to ensure Ontario's economic and technological leadership in the emerging global marketplace. The building was made possible through a generous bequest of $6.2 million from D.L. Pratt, through his widow Lucile. This significant contribution represents part of the 125 million raised by the university's Breakthrough Campaign. Additional funding for the project was provided through the Province of Ontario's Ministry of Colleges and Universities, and the Information Technology Research Centre (ITRC), a provincial Centre of Excellence. The 4200 square metre complex is a three-story addition to the Metallurgy wing of the Wallberg building. It is connected to the engineering and computer science complex by an overhead walkway. The building houses research groups from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, and the Computer Systems Research Group, all of which are associated with ITRC.
