Tom Chan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Apr 1996 01:11:40 -0800 From: Tom Chan To: women-in-hockey@plaidworks.com Subject: Pac Rim Scores A few places you should be able to locate details: The Canadian Hockey Association home page or support one of our volunteers and visit his site at: http://ourworld.compuserv.com/homepages/snazcom/ and follow his links. Briefly, USA defeated China 4-2. Really a 3-2 game as USA was down 2-1 with about 6 minutes to go when USA tied it at 2. Then with less than 1:30 to play, USA popped in the winner. An empty netter was added. Canada defeated Japan 12-0 on day one. In day two, Canada defeated China in an intense 1-0 game featuring outstanding goaltending by China. USA deafeated Japan 16-0. Crowds have been excellent with about combined 1000 spectators for day one and about 1200 for day 2 combined two games. On day 3, Wednesday, Japan plays China and USA plays Canada. Judging by ticket sales on day 2 alone, it could be close to a sell-out (1500) for the USA vs. Canada at 9:00. Excitement is anticipated. Thursday is a day off. Friday are the semi-finals with medal games on Saturday. If the first two days are of any indications, we are anticipating close to a sell-out for Saturday. So for any who are planning to attend, I hope you have you tickets!!! If you are thinking about it; don't think too long!!! Tickets are avaialble still through Ticketmaster (not sure about USA Ticketmaster). Buy now, or you will be on the outside looking in. The only TV coverage available is local cable Rogers 4. Rogers 4 will be taping Wednesday game (hoping it may be live) and live (current plan anyhow) on Saturday. Other major networks may buy the feed and re-transmit but that is between Rogers and the other major networks. Looking forward to the weekend!!!!! Tom Chan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Apr 1996 22:56:04 -0700 From: Tom Chan Subject: Pacific Rim - A Success! Well, it's a wrap! The 1996 Pacific Women's Hockey Championship is over with Canada winning the Gold and USA receiving the Silver. It featured outstanding goaltending from the Chinese team, which is why the scores were what they were between USA and Canada during round robin play. She was the deservingly the receipient of the Tournament's outstanding goaltender award. The Host committee was active from March 29th with pre-event exhibition game to April 6th with the Gold medal game. Thanks to all that attended and all the support from all volunteers who are on the net and sponsors too! The Minoru Arena in Richmond, B.C. has not been home to such crowds and enthusiastic fans for many years. The final ticket count was 2235 (which is higer than reported in the press as we did not have this number at time of filing by the press). For information, the normal capacity of the arena is 1600 but we could not turn away the line-up of fans out the door so we ensured every available inch was utilized. We can now relax and rest....... To the teams, you were great. Team Japan was young but kept being positive and were the Championship's darling team. Watch out for China. Once they get some offensive skills and stickhandling, will give USA and Canada a definitely run for their money. This Championship is definitely the beginning of the "Road to Nagano, Japan 1998."
