Women's College Hockey in USA ============================= This information was provided by Ryan Stone (stoner2@rpi.edu) who is the head coach of Rensselaer's Women's Ice Hockey Team. Thanks Ryan! I am not sure if they have decided how best to do this yet. We (RPI) in this division, are currently looking for a 12th team to even out the EAST division. We are considering Sacred Heart and Connecticut College, however neither team is very organized yet. Again teams will play in division twice and out of division once, for a 14 or 15 game schedule. Travel partners are listed one after another (Rensselaer-RIT, Maine-Bowdoin...) and currently Wesleyan is without a travel partner. Also, Augsburg College (Minnesota) became the first midwestern school with a VARSITY women's hockey program (beginning in the 95-96 season). The University of Minnesota will go VARSITY in 1997. Independent Varsity - USA: +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Teams: Augsburg College ------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is some information provided by Richard Hungerford (hungerf@husc.harvard.edu) (Sept 95) about the ECAC league organization for the 95-96 season: Next year in the ECAC League 12 teams will not be playing each other twice, but "one and a half times". Meaning 16 games will count in the league. The result is the league is broken into two pods: (Brown, PC, UNH, Colby, Princeton, Yale) and (Northeastern, Harvard, Dartmouth, BC, Cornell St. Lawrence). I know which pod I'd prefer to have the extra game against! The problem of playing home and home games (22 games count) is that many ECAC teams already have commitments to tournaments. So they plan to phase in the 22 games counting over the next couple of years. I thought they might come to that as the schools were going to have to come up with several more weekends of ice time. ----------------------------------------------- File last Updated: Mon Sep 25 17:50:15 EDT 1995 -----------------------------------------------
