These are the countries that are known to have women's hockey teams.

This list shows the countries that competed in the 1996 European A
Championship, the 1996 European B Championship, and in the Asian
Championship.  There is no North American Championship (Canada and
USA automatically qualify for the World Championship).

The number in parenthesis below indicates how many countries from this
group of countries qualify to compete at the World Championship.

QUALIFICATION FOR WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (1994):
====================================================

The following is the way that the qualification for the 1992 and 1994
World Championship took place.

  5   The top 5 teams at the A European Championship qualify 
      to attend the World Championships.

 +1   The top 1 team at the Asian Championship qualifies 
      to attend the World Championships.

 +2   Two teams from North America (Team Canada and Team USA)
      automatically qualify to attend the World Championships.
 ====
  8   That makes for a total of 8 countries at the World 
      Championships.

The winner of the B European Championship moves up to the
A European Championship Pool the following year.  The lowest
finishing team at the A European Championship moves down to 
the B European Championship Pool the following year.
