OBJECTIVE
The objective of this assignment is to provide you with some hands-on experience with HTML (HyperText Markup Language). The information you need to for this assignment will be provided during your first two tutorial sessions. You can also obtain information about HTML from the course package and the HTML links page.
SCENARIO
You have just graduated from university and are looking for a job. To impress your prospective employers, you have decided to put a copy of your resumé on your web page and to make a reference to the URL of your web page on the HTML version of your resumé, which you will send out.
WEB PAGE (5 marks)
To create your web page, you may want to look at some personal web pages for other students:
As these pages show, people often add a picture of themselves to their web page (if you have access to a scanner, you might want to enhance your web page by adding pictures), accompanied with some personal information such as hobbies, interests, and links to their favourite web sites on the Internet.
The following is a list of criteria that will be used by your teaching assistants to mark your web page.
RESUME (5 marks)
Using a text editor, type in the information to be included in your resumé. Add HTML tags to the text to format your resumé. Save your file as resume.html . It is a good idea to save your file frequently as you are working on it. You should add a link from your web page to this resumé web page, using the appropriate HTML tag.
The above procedure can also be used to create your main web page as well, except the filename for your web page must be called index.html . Both web page files should be copied into the folder H:\public_html on your CDF-PC computer, so that they'll appear on your CDF web page.
The following is a list of criteria that will be used by your teaching assistants to mark your resumé web page:
SUBMISSION
You must send an e-mail message to your TA, prior to the assignment's deadline, containing your full name (as it appears on your student card), your student #, and the URL for your web page. You'll lose marks if your TA does not receive an e-mail message from you. Consult the People web page on the course web site for a list of TA e-mail addresses.
Furthermore, you must submit a hard copy of your assignment including the HTML source code for all of your pages (that includes the HTML copy of your resumé). All of your hard copies should be placed inside an unsealed 8.5 x 11 inch envelope. Submit your assignment to your TA at the beginning of your tutorial.
Do not forget to attach the cover page to your assignment. It must be attached (stapled, taped, or glued) to the front of the envelope.
Late assignments will be accepted until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 7th. They will receive a penalty of -30%. The late drop box is located next to room SF2305A.
WORDS OF CAUTION
The following is a list of things which you should keep in mind while doing your assignment. Failure to do so, may in addition to costing you marks, invoke severe penalties such as academic sanctions (if you are suspected of plagiarism or academic misconduct, as defined in the school's calendar) and/or criminal charges (for neglecting copyright privileges).
