CSC104 Midterm Exam
Summer 2000

Location

The midterm test will take place from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday July 4th. Both lecture sections (day and evening) will be writing the midterm test at this time.

There will be no tutorials on this day, but the regularly scheduled lectures will still take place.

What's Covered

The following material will be tested on the midterm:

  1. Lecture notes and material covered in lectures (including material stated in the lecture that is not in the notes). You are responsible for all material up to and including the 6th week of lecture (Visual Basic).

  2. All of the assigned readings for weeks 1-6 in the course textbook and the course package. See the lectures web page for the complete list of assigned readings. You are responsible for any readings that were assigned for weeks 1 through 6.

Note: As discussed in lecture, you are not responsible for all of the material covered in the last set of Visual Basic lecture notes (the part called "Visual Basic 3" or "Lec8" in the course package). We did not cover pages Lec8-12 through Lec8-18.

Breakdown of Questions

As I mentioned in lecture, I made up the first 25 questions on the midterm using the material from the textbook and tutorials. The instructor of this course at Scarboro made the remaining 25 questions from the material in the lecture notes (including Visual Basic and number system conversions).

Format

The format of the midterm exam will be 50 multiple choice questions. The final exam on the other hand will be a mixture of different types of questions. Please remember to bring a pencil to the midterm test.

In terms of the Visual Basic material on the midterm, we of course cannot ask you to write programs, but you must understand how the code works in case you are asked to trace a program and state its output. You should know the theoretical material about programming too.

No calculators are allowed, as many calculators provide keys that do the number conversions for you.

We will be asking programming questions, not questions about using the Visual Basic environment.

You could also be asked about some very basic HTML commands.

Please Note

As we may decide to reuse some of the questions on your midterm exam in future offerings of this course, we are requiring that you hand in your question booklet after the midterm exam. After the midterm, the question booklet may be viewed during your instructor's office hours.
