Getting Something Remarked

No Appeals for A0 or A1

During the term we try to be as consistent and fair as possible. Sometimes markers make mistakes and so we provide a process by which you can attempt to have a mistake corrected.

Students also make mistakes. One of the most common mistakes is failing to follow the rules for electronic submission and either submitting a file with the wrong name or submitting the file to the wrong location. When this happens your file is not found by the marking program and consequently you receive a grade of zero. Once during the term, you will be allowed to appeal this outcome and have your incorrectly named or incorrectly placed file marked.

This is a lot of work for the markers and it is very common that students make these errors on the first two assignments. Therefore we have created a marking scheme that allows you to replace your combined A0 and A1 marks with your mark from A2. For all students in 108, your mark on the first three assignments is max((A0 + A1 + A2),(2*A2)).
For this reason, there will be NO appeals for A0 or A1 .

Appeals for Electronic Submission of other Assignments

There will be other assignments during the term which are submitted electronically. If you make a submission error on one of these assignments here is the process to request a remark.
  1. Complete an Esubmission appeal form . which tells us where to find your original submission. Submit the form to your instructor.
  2. Do NOT resubmit your assignment. We will use the original time stamp on the submission to determine when your assignment arrived.
  3. You may do this only once during the term.
  4. You must do this within 2 weeks of the original due date on the assignment.
  5. A 20 percent penalty will be applied to the grade on the assignment.

Other Marking Problems

Sometimes you may disagree strongly with the marking of an assignment. If it simply an addition error, you should speak with your TA about the mark. If it is something more significant you may complete remarking request form. On this form you must state specifically what you felt was incorrectly marked on your assignment. Saying simply "I thought I deserved a higher mark" or "my friend in this section got a higher mark for this" is not considered justfication for a remark. You submit this completed form and your original marked assignment to your TA. Your TA will remark the assignment and add his or her comments to the form.

Only if you are unsatisfied with the result should you see your instructor about the remark. Visit your instructor during an office hour and bring with you the original assignment, the remarking request form returned by your TA and a written note explaining why you feel the TA's response is not acceptable. Your instructor may choose to discuss the material with you at that time or he or she may wish to process it later. In the latter case, your full case needs to be made in writing so your instructor can remember your situation.
