CSC 108H
The textbook
The current textbook for the course is:
An Introduction to Programming and Object-Oriented Design Using
Java
by Jaime Nino and Frederick A. Hosch (Wiley, 2002)
This book will be our text until the end of the winter session 2002.
It may very well continue to be the text for CSC108H afterwards, but that
isn't guaranteed.
Required Supplementary materials
As well as the main text, there are other required materials.
-
The Java API: An Introduction for Students ,by J.N. Clarke
(Custom Publishing, 2001).
It is very useful when you want to look up
details of the Java libraries, for example during an exam.
It is fine to get a copy of the version published in 2000.
You will also need a third booklet which describes the campus-specific
computing facilities.
- For St. George Students:
How to prepare programs on the Computer Science PC facility, edited
by J.N. Clarke (PC 01, August 2001)
- For Erindale Students:
How to prepare programs on the UTM PC Facility, edited
by M.W. Craig (UTM PC 0l, August 2001)
version)
Optional Supplementary materials
The Nino and Hosch text can be purchased alone or it can be bundled together
with
ProgramLive: A Multimedia Java Learning Resource,by Gries & Gries.
(Data Description, 2000).
This CD is not required but it is an excellent second resource and it
very reasonably priced when purchased together with the course textbook.
