CSC 148H/A58H -- Closed Laboratories

General Lab Info

This page is here to provide any new and/or interesting information about your closed labs.

The labs are only in weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, and 12. There are no labs in weeks 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13. So go to the lab sessions that you were assigned to, and email me if there are any problems. Here's some information about the lab sessions from my good friend Patrick:

Lab SessionLab RoomTime
PRA0101SE 1158Mon 9-11
PRA0201SE 1158Mon 11-1
PRA0301SE 1158Mon 4-6
PRA0401SE 1158Wed 8-10
PRA0501SE 1158Wed 10-12
PRA0601SE 1158Wed 12-2
PRA0701SE 1158Fri 9-11

Although the lab room specified in registration specifies SE 1158, that is merely the room that the TA will be in, if you would like help while working on your labs. You can work in any room that you like, although I'd encourage working in SE 1158 so that you can benefit from the presence of the TA and your fellow classmates.

Pre-lab exercises

Each lab MAY have a pre-lab exercise, which will be required as an "entrance fee": if you don't have the pre-lab done, you won't be let in the lab. The pre-lab exercises are listed below.

  1. Week 2: no pre-lab exercise. However, you must bring your lecture notes to the lab in order to be let in.
  2. Week 5.
  3. Week 6: bring the Exceptions section from the lecture slides to your lab as an entry fee.
  4. Week 8: Run DrJava and select Help->Help. Read the "Testing using JUnit" section. JUnit is a popular professional testing framework, and you will be using it in lab 8. If you have a JUnit test case (a class) you can run it by clicking the "Test" button. It runs any method beginning with "test". There are several useful assertion methods, which you'll find out about from the Help section.

Past closed labs

Note that there will be no solutions posted for past closed labs, because the value of these labs lies entirely in doing them, and not in reading someone else's answer. If you have questions about your solution to a past closed lab, feel free to ask your TA during one of the weeks when there are no labs, or any other TA any time at the Help Center, or your instructor during his office hours. The past closed labs are listed below.

  1. Week 1: no lab.
  2. Week 2.
  3. Week 3.
  4. Week 4: no lab.
  5. Week 5.
  6. Week 6.
  7. Week 8.
  8. Week 9.
  9. Week 11.
