Matt Medland (one of the panelists from last Thursday's class) is hosting a series of industry guest speakers in his CSC444 lectures over the next few weeks. He's inviting you to come join them, if you're interested in meeting some interesting people. For more information about this, check out the speaker website at: http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~matt/csc444/pls.html
Also, Neil Schneider (also one of the panelists last week) is running an immersive technology conference in a couple of weeks, and has offered you discounted admission, with the code 'UofTimmersed'. Go check it out at http://www.getimmersed.com.
IBM recently announced a series of job opportunities for their Watson group, and are encouraging all of you to apply. One reason why the IBM Watson people are very excited about this course in the first place is because of the hiring opportunity. By the time the course is over, you'll all be familiar with the Watson technology, which makes you quite valuable to their recruiters. So unless you know what you'll be doing this summer already, all of you should take a look at this, and consider dropping a resume in to see where it leads.
Andrew Dorsey (adorsey at us.ibm.com) is our main recruiting contact in the Watson Group. He has said that:
"Students are welcome to apply directly to the Watson jobs site. Our 'hot' entry level jobs are on the main, front-page of the Watson jobs site: http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet/us/en/ibmwatson/careers.html".
He also provided a breakdown of their entry-level opportunities, shown below. If you see a job title that you're interested in, use the job ID on the left to submit your application through.

Diane Horton is organizing an interview skills seminar this afternoon, and you should go if you have time. Interviewing (and other on-the-spot interactions) are things that most people don't have much opportunity to practice, and you'll need it for the future. Here's the information about it, if you're interested in checking it out:
See you all Thursday!

Saturday's Watson Hackathon session went well, so thanks to everybody who came out. For those who didn't come out, you'll need to demonstrate to me that you're able to get the question-answering working on your computer, so check out my schedule and let me know when you'd like to come by.
We've finalized a room for the law info session on Thursday evening:
* BA7231, 6pm - 8pm
We shouldn't need the full two hours, but I always book extra, just in case.
You'll have an hour to grab something to eat, or talk a little to the IBM guests from our afternoon session before the law session starts. During the law session, we'll be going over what law actually is, and what areas are in high demand in law these days.
Our IBM guests are Rick Power and Angus McIntyre, who will show you the potential that Watson has from a business and technical perspective. They're both really respected people, so look them up on Linkedin before class, to get a sense of what their backgrounds are.
See you Thursday!
